Civil Partnership Ceremony
In the ACT couples of the same sex are able to celebrate their partnership and have their relationship legally recognised irrespective of gender.
There are certain conditions and obligations that you must meet prior to a making a declaration and having a ceremony before a civil partnerships celebrant:
- The couple must complete a Notice of Intention to Enter into a Civil Partnership (NCP) not earlier than 5 days before the declaration, and the declaration may not be made later than 18 months after the day the notice is given. To complete the NCP you must provide your notary with:
- Proof of identity
- Proof of residency
- A birth certificate and passport if born in Australia
- A birth certificate, passport and citizenship certificate if born outside Australia.
- The civil partnership declaration must be made in the Australian Capital Territory.
Ours was the first same-sex ceremony that you had conducted. We could not have been happier with the outcome. This sentiment was reflected by many of our family, friends and relatives who were also present – a truly wonderful day. We’ve had nothing but really great feedback about the day, and the ceremony in particular. We understand it was new territory for you in some ways and the day went off perfectly. Thank you Alice.
